PROFESSOR WOJCIECH FAŁKOWSKI, PhD

Born in 1952. Master’s degree at the University of Warsaw in 1976, doctoral degree and post-doctoral degree at the University of Warsaw in 1986 and 2000, Titular Professor since 2013; in 1976–1977 he was employed as a trainee assistant and later dismissed for political reasons from the University of Warsaw for his co-operation with KSS „KOR” (the Committee for Social Self-Defence KOR). 1977–1981 – the head of underground publications Głos and Krąg. Professor Fałkowski was reinstated by the Institute of History of the University of Warsaw in 1980 to the position of an assistant (1980–1986), then worked as a lecturer in 1986–1993. In 1993–2001, he served as Secretary General of the Polish Committee for UNESCO. Since 2002, he has been Professor of the University of Warsaw. Since 1994 he has been the editor-in-chief of the yearly “Quaestiones Medii Aevi Novae”. In 2000–2002, he worked as the Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the First Congress of Polish Medievalists, and in 2001–2012, he held the position of the Chairman of the Standing Committee of Polish Medievalists. Member of the Scientific Council of the UNESCO world programme bringing together the best archival and library collections “Memory of the World” (1997–2001), then (2001–2005) the Chairman of the Nominations Committee of this programme. Between 2004 and 2005 – the Chairman of the Team of the Mayor of the City for the estimation of the losses of Warsaw and its inhabitants during occupation in 1939–1945. 2008–2012 – Professor at the Paris-Sorbonne University. From 2015 to 2017 – the Deputy Minister of National Defence, since November 2017 – the Director of the Royal Castle in Warsaw.
